The Golden Eagles traveled over to Livonia and tightened their hold on first place in the WHAC by defeating Madonna 3-1 today. Brian Nimmo opened the scoring in 13th minute of play by dribbling around a couple of people in the box and finishing the run with a shot past the Crusader GK. The Golden Eagles outshot the Crusaders 8-6 in the first half of play but neither would find the back of the net after Nimmo's goal. Cornerstone came out and turned up the heat right off the kickoff by scoring #2 just 2:36 into the second half of play. Jake Stanko scored his 6th goal of the season by finishing off a Brian Nimmo cross from about 6 yards out. The Crusaders got back into the game 6 minutes later by scoring on a corner kick to make it 2-1. The Golden Eagles responded 10 minutes later on a Tristan Esprit free kick from about 23 yards to go up 3-1. The Crusaders out shot the Golden Eagles 5-2 down the stretch but the Golden Eagles kept them off the scoreboard to claim a 3-1 win. Cornerstone improves to a perfect 6-0 in the WHAC and 9-2-1 overall. Cornerstone will travel to play Marygrove (2-1-2 in the WHAC) on Saturday for a 3:00 p.m. kickoff.
