Game 1
The Golden Eagles gave up three runs in the first inning and spent the
rest of the game playing catch up in the first game today. Heidi Warmelink settled down after the first
inning and held the Saints scoreless over the next five innings. Cornerstone made it 3-2 in the top of the
sixth inning on a Megan Oberst two run homer.
The Golden Eagles then tied it 3-3 in the top of the seventh inning when
Heidi Warmelink singled to knock in Haley Castillo who had singled earlier in
the inning. Aquinas did rally in the
bottom of the seventh with three hits to score the winning run with just one
out and walked off with a 4-3 victory.
Game 2
The Golden Eagles opened the second game with
a run in the first inning. Haley
Castillo opened the game with a triple and scored on a wild pitch to make it
1-0. Aquinas responded with a run of
their own in the bottom of the first to make it 1-1. The game remained tied at 1-1 until the sixth
inning. Cornerstone scored 2 runs in the
top of the sixth. Jenna Weightman
singled, advanced to second on a Kaitlyn Carlson SAC bunt and scored on a Kathy
DeYoung single. Ashley Niedermayer then
knocked in DeYoung with a single to make it 3-1. Aquinas struck back in the bottom of the
sixth with four runs of their own to make it 5-3. Cornerstone loaded the bases to start the
seventh and Lauren Pasciak scored on a Jenna Weightman SAC fly to the left
fielder to make it 5-4 but the Golden Eagles failed to get any more home at
Aquinas defeated Cornerstone 5-4. Both
of these games were scheduled as non-conference games so did not count in the
WHAC standings.
Cornerstone will play another non-conference double header at Davenport on Thursday at 4:00.
