The Cornerstone Men's & Women's Tennis teams split with Judson University on a windy Saturday in Illinois, with the men winning 8-1 and the women losing 4-5.
The CU Men jumped up early, sweeping all three doubles points. Then, singles wins by
Chris Reed at #3 and
Alex Tarnow at #6 gave CU a 5-0 lead and clinched the win. The CU Men won matches after dropping their first sets, with
Austin Hunt at #2,
John Andrew at #4 and
Andrew Son at #5 all winning in third set super tie-breakers. Freshman
Elijah Yi pulled out of his singles match with a muscle strain, giving Judson their lone win.
The CU Women played their best match of the year, but just barely fell short. CU led 2-1 after the doubles matches, picking up wins at #2 & #3 doubles. In singles, CU picked up wins from
Janie Silvers at #3 and
Allison Rusticus at #6. The match was tied 4-4 and the last court on was
Carrie Carr at #4. After splitting the first 2 sets, the team match came down to a 10 point tie-breaker. The tie-breaker was well-played and hard fought, but Carrie fell short, losing 12-10.
Next up for both teams is Indiana Wesleyan University on Wednesday September 12 at 3:30 pm at Orchard Hills.
