The Golden Eagles faced cross-town rival Davenport in a non-conference game today and came out with a 3-1 victory. Cornerstone started out well scoring a goal in the first minute. Kerri Hoffman
dribbled into the box and hit a shot that was handled by a Panther player resulting in a Penalty Kick. Amanda Van Laar
hit a shot high that keeper Michelle Marcus got her hand on but it hit the underside of the crossbar and bounced into the goal. The Golden Eagles almost got a second goal a few minutes later but Maile Carigon
hit the shot right at the keeper. Cornerstone continued to play well throughout most of the first half. Kerri Hoffman
put the Golden Eagles up 2-0 late in the half on a shot from just outside the box that went over the Davenpoirt GK. The game was a bit of a tale of two halves as the Panthers controlled much more of the play in the second half. The Panthers made it 2-1 in the 54th minute of play scoring on a header off of a corner kick. Cornerstone scored the third goal in the 72nd minute on another Penalty Kick. A Davenport player handled the ball on the goal line. Amanda Van Laar
converted the kick to the lower left portion of the goal to give the Golden Eagles a two goal lead. Cornerstone held on to the lead and finished with a 3-1 win. The Golden Eagles will return to action on Thursday night at 7:00 when they take on Bethel College.
