The Cornerstone University volleyball squad defeated Siena Heights on Wednesday night to send off their four seniors. The Golden Eagles used a balanced scoring attack, hitting .291 during a 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-17) sweep of visiting Siena Heights on Wednesday at Mol Arena.
With the win, the Golden Eagles (19-7, 7-2 WHAC) move to a share of second place with Davenport in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference standings, while Siena Heights (15-9, 4-5 WHAC) drops to the fourth place position.
Cornerstone has now won each of its last 18 home matches with the last loss dating back to November 4, 2010, against Madonna University. The Golden Eagles are 6-0 at home this season while prevailing in each of its last 15 sets at home.
While Cornerstone connected on .291 attacking percentage, Siena Heights connected on only .048 for the match. The Golden Eagles held a 3-2 advantage in blocks and 53-42 in digs.
Cornerstone's Kim Weaver led all players with nine kills. Murphy Heyer recorded eight kills, while Kate Zwier hit .444 in scoring five kills. Abby Miedema notched 19 digs for the night. Siena Height's Carly Tillotson led all Saints with 17 assists while notching three kills. Lindsey Adams hit .031 (7-6-32) to notch the match high of seven kills.
Cornerstone will host the Aquinas/Cornerstone Classic (ACC) this weekend. The Golden Eagles take on Mount Mercy, Shawnee State, Rochester College, and Bethel College on Friday and Saturday.
