The No. 4 seed Cornerstone volleyball team earned a tough 3-2 win (25-11, 24-26, 25-19, 16-25, 15-13) over No. 5 seed University of Northern Ohio during the quarterfinal match of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Volleyball Championship, held at Madonna University.
The Golden Eagles (24-9) advance to the WHAC Championship semifinals, where they will face No. 1 seed Madonna, Saturday at 10 a.m. Meanwhile, Northernwestern Ohio's season ends at 32-6.
For the match, UNOH hit .285 in earning 65 kills, while Cornerstone posted 72 kills at a .280 pace. Cornerstone served up seven aces, and the Racers posted seven aces and six service errors.
Becky Albrecht led Cornerstone with 15 kills and added three assists. Kim Weaver and Cailie Johnson both earned a double-double in the kill and dig categories. Abby Miedema collected 20 digs to pace Cornerstone, while Weaver and Murphy Heyer entered double digit figures in the dig category. Weaver also sent down 14 kills, hitting .538 to lead the Golden Eagles.
UNOH's Casey Gates led all players with 20 kills and nine digs. Lauren Maxwell posted a match-high 50 assists, and Ellie Comes collected 19 digs for the Racers.
