The Golden Eagles shot 50% from the field during this afternoon's contest compared to Alma College shooting at a 40.3% pace for the day. Wes Hudson led the way for Cornerstone posting a season-high and tying his career-high, 29 points. Hudson went five-for-eight from behind the arc and hit a perfect eight-for-ten from the free throw line. Senior co-captain also notched 22 points on the day.
The Cornerstone men's basketball team welcomed non-conference opponent, Alma College on Saturday afternoon. With a dominant performance by co-captains Derek Kingshott and Wes Hudson, the Golden Eagles notched a win during the non-conference contest and improve to 10-4 overall. The Scots from Alma drop to 4-5 overall.
The Golden Eagles took an early nine point lead within the first six minutes of the game. The Scots fought back and were able to take the lead after back-to-back three's from Jake Murawske, 18-17. Cornerstone went on a 10-0 run to take an 11 point lead from Alma with nine minutes remaining before the break. The Scots continued to battle through the half shortening the deficit to nearly two points with one minute remaining till halftime. However after a three point shot by Hudson and a pair of free throws by Anthony Allen, the Golden Eagles rode a 44-37 halftime advantage. The first half was highlighted by Hudson going three-for-five from behind the arc, Kingshott notching 11 points, and Jake Plite grabbing six rebounds.
The Scots came out strong in the second half finding themselves down two points behind the Golden Eagles with 14:09 on the clock. Cornerstone was able to go on a 14-5 run highlighted by seven points from Hudson and four points from Kingshott. Cornerstone continued their strong play with their biggest lead at 14 with 3:36 remaining and heading to an 89-76 win over the visiting team.
The Golden Eagles will take a break from the action and will travel to Grace Bible College on Saturday, Dec. 29. Tip off scheduled for 3 p.m.
