(Clermont, Fla.) Cornerstone played their first game against Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) and came away with a 5-0 victory. The Golden Eagles did most of the damage in the first inning. Haley Castillo drew a walk, Lauren Pasciak advanced Castillo with an infield hit to the pitcher and Heidi Warmelink knocked in Castillo with a single to center to make it 1-0. Megan Oberst then cleared the bases with a 3 run shot to make it 4-0. Cornerstone scored their last run in the top of the 5th on a Rachel Bode RBI single to make it 5-0. Heidi Warmelink went the distance from the circle giving up just 2 hits in the shutout. Warmelink improved to 1-1 on the season.
The Golden Eagles faced WHAC newcomer Lourdes University in the second game of the day. Rachel Nelson took a no hitter into the 7th inning but gave up a leadoff triple to break up the no-no. Heidi Warmelink came in to close out the game with a 2-0 lead. Warmelink struck out the first batter but the second batter grounded out to 2B to bring in the runner from third to make it 2-1. The next batter reached on an error and Warmelink struck out the last batter to end the game. Megan Oberst and Harlie Sherman each had RBI's for Cornerstone to give them a 2-1 victory. Nelson picked up her 2nd win of the year and Warmelink was credited with the save as Cornerstone improved to 3-1 on the year.
Cornerstone will play Point Park (Pa.) and Clarke (Iowa) tomorrow at 11:00 am and 3:00 pm.
