In the first home games of the season, the Cornerstone University baseball team swept a double header today against Indiana Wesleyan University.

In the first game, the Golden Eagles beat the Wildcats 6-3 behind the pitching of Brandon Willard and Cullen Montgomery. Willard started on the mound and pitched four innings giving up two runs on zero hits while walking four and striking out one. He earned his first win of the year and is now 1-1.

Montgomery came on in relief and pitched three innings in which he gave up one run on two hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

Zach Harbison led the offense going 2-3 with a triple and two runs scored. Zack Meyer added a double and an RBI for the Golden Eagles.

In game two, Jon Knapp dominated on the mound for Cornerstone. He pitched four innings giving up one unearned run on four hits with one walk and four strikeouts. Knapp left the game in the fifth inning after tweaking his left hamstring.

David Mitroff came on in relief and went 2.2 solid innings. Kyle Marburger threw the last .1 innings to pick up the win. He came in with the bases loaded and two outs and was able to induce a routine ground out. Marburger is now 1-0 on the season.

Zach Bohl was great at the plate with two singles and the game winning run. Tyler Krahn was 2-3 with two RBI and Nick Covello was 1-2 with two runs, two walks, and the game winning RBI in the bottom of the seventh inning. The walk-off victory finished an outstanding day for Cornerstone baseball.

The Golden Eagles will take the field again for the beginning of conference play next Wednesday at Davenport University.
