(Georgetown, KY) The volleyball team finished the weekend strong by winning the last two matches of the weekend. The Golden Eagles defeated Milligan College 3-1 (25-19, 31-29, 20-25, 25-15) in the first match of the day. Three players recorded double figure kills. Alicia TerHaar finished with 17, Amy VanderWal notched 13 and Abby Miedema added 11.
Setters Tamara Bethke and Erin Greenwood dished out 21 assists each. CU hit over .300 in the first two games hitting .379 in the first and .390 in the second. The team finished with a hitting percentage of .253. Miedema and Sarah Miller led the team with 4 aces apiece and the team had 7 blocks for the game.
In the final match of the day CU met Union Ky., a team who received honorable mention votes in the latest NAIA polls. The Golden Eagles beat the Lady Bulldogs 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-13) to notch their first win over a ranked opponent and improve to the .500 mark (6-6 overall). Amy VanderWal led the team with 8 kills on 13 attempts (.385 hitting percentage). Tamara Bethke finished with a team high 18 assists. Abby Miedema was the dig leader with 5 on the day. The defense added 12 blocks on the night and had a hitting percentage of .225. The Golden Eagles will host Concordia University at 7pm for the first WHAC match of the season and The Other Way Ministries will be the charity that will benefit from all the proceeds raised at the match. Deck out in camouflage as that is what the theme of the night will be.
