The Golden Eagles hit the road for a very important WHAC contest at Siena Heights today and they came away with a 2-1 win in OT to improve to 6-4 overall and 1-0 in conference play. It was a very big road win for the Golden Eagles.Cornerstone went down 1-0 in the 25th minute of play when Ashley
Poirier knocked in a ball from inside the 6 yard box. Cornerstone
battled hard after the goal and Heidi DeVries tied the score at 1-1 five
minutes later. DeVries knocked home a ball from about 8 yards out that
came from an
Anna Stegink corner and a flick from
Ashleigh Lund. The
half ended in a 1-1 tie. Cornerstone came out in the 2nd half and moved
the ball pretty well and outshot the Saints 9-5 but neither team could
find the back of the net.
The Golden Eagles started out well in the OT period.
Amanda Ulstad got in her first action since the first game of the season and almost scored on her first touch of the game but the Siena Heights GK was able to get to it and bring it in for the save. Just a minute later,
Riley Steen won a ball and tried to play the ball to
Paige Knott but was deflected by a defender up in the air. Knott settled the ball, touched it out in front of her, and hit a beautiful shot into the upper right corner of the goal for the game winner. The Golden Eagles will host Aquinas in a non-conference game for Homecoming on Saturday at noon. The Golden Eagles will turn around and play Aquinas at Aquinas for the conference game on Wednesday, Oct. 6th at 4:00 p.m.
