It was a tail of two halves. Cornerstone led by as many of 9 points in the first half (20-11) at the 8:28 minute mark but the Trolls steadily clawed their way back on strong free-throw shooting and 11 first half turnovers. Brooke Carter scored 10 of her 16 points in the first half. The Golden Eagles were 10-34 from the floor shooting a cool 29% and 4-12 from the 3-point line. CU took a slim 28-27 lead into the locker-room.
The Golden Eagles came out of the locker-room with focused determination. The Trolls tied the game at 33-33 two minutes into the second half but CU never played from behind and knocked down 16 of 19 shots from the floor to shoot a sizzling 84%.
Melissa Veltkamp had the hot hand connecting on 5-10 from the 3 point line and finished with a team high 20 points plus 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Cornerstone was 6-7 from behind the arc in the second half and 10-19 for the game.
Robyn Veltkamp also scored in double figures finishing with 14 and 10 assists. Trinity Christian was led by Tiffany Deckinga's 22 points.
Cornerstone shot 53% from the arc and 49% from the field while connecting on 72% from the free-throw line (13-18). The Trolls were 24-31 from the free-throw line. CU finished with a 12 point win over the Trolls 75-63 and improved to 3-0 on the season while Trinity Christian falls to 0-2. The Golden Eagles will host Spring Arbor University at 7pm on Wednesday, November 10.
