The Golden Eagles never led in the first half of play tonight but they
did hang tough through the first half.
Cornerstone cut the Indiana Tech lead to 1 (26-25) 4:18 on the clock but the Warriors made an
11-1 run to push their lead back to 37-26 with :35 left in the half. Derek Kingshott would make a 2 point shot
with :04 on the clock to cut the deficit to 9 at the half. Indiana Tech was up 41-34 early in the 2nd
half when Ronald Bates hit a 3-pointer to bring the score to within 4
(41-37). Indiana Tech's coach was hit
with 2 technical fouls and Kelvin DeVries went to the line and hit 4 straight
to tie the score at 41-41. The teams
battled back and forth over the next 10 minutes. The teams tied for the 7th time at
60-60 with 7:42 on the clock. Clyde
McKinney tied the score at 72-72 with a 3-pointer with 2:19 remaining in the
game. Cornerstone built the lead to
76-75 and had the ball but missed a shot to increase the lead with :11 seconds. Ronald Bates shot rolled around the rim and off to Indiana Tech. Tech had a shot to win it as time ran down
but a off balance shot from McKinney only drew iron and Derek Kingshott grabbed
the ball as time ran out. Cornerstone
improved to 15-2 overall and 4-0 in the WHAC.
The Golden Eagles will resume WHAC play on Saturday, Jan. 8th
at 3:00 p.m. when they take on UM-Dearborn.
