Game 1- Cornerstone University vs. Judson University (Ill.)
Despite
harsh weather conditionswith high winds, Cornerstone University earned
another victory in eight innings against Judson University. Heidi Warmelink once again took the mound
for the Golden Eagles pitching a four hitter with eleven strike outs. Both
teams began slow offensively as the pitcher's duelgenerated. In the fifth
inning, Cornerstone capitalized on their opportunity to score. Lauren Pasciak drew a walk with two outs
andJessica Kuhlman drove in Pasciak with a
double to left center. Judson then answered with a run in the bottom of the
sixth to tie the game. Neither team scored in the seventh inning to force an
international tie breaker. The top of the eighth inning began with Kuhlman on
second base. Melanie Creager then singled through short
stop and third to move Kuhlman to third base. With Creager on second and
Kuhlman on third, Warmelink stepped to the plate with one out. Warmelink
performed the suicide squeeze bunt to score Kuhlman and earn an R.B.I. Then,
with Warmelink on first and Creager on third, Warmelink stole second and
purposely forced herself into a rundown to score Creager. Judson also began
with a runner on second in thebottom of the eighth. Judson sacrifice
bunted their runner to third, and then scored on a ground ball to second base.
Warmelink struck out the last batter to end the inning. The final score was
3-2.
Game 2- Jamestown College (S.D.) vs. Cornerstone University
The
Golden Eagles struggled in their second game of the day against the Jimmies of
Jamestown University. Giving up six runs in the third inning alone, the Golden
Eagles trailed the Jimmies 10 to 3 in the fourth. The Golden Eagles found a way
to keep fighting however, and forced the game into seven full innings of play.
Offensively, the Golden Eagles did not look unsatisfactory. Together, the team
gathered eleven hits and scored seven runs. Jessica Kuhlman and Lauren Pasciak both had two hits for the
Golden Eagles. Tahni Bruno, Melanie Creager, Heidi Warmelink, Dinah Gruppen, Madison Bucilla, Rachel Gruppen and Stefanie Leet all contributed one hit a
piece. Kuhlman, Creager, and Pasciak all had two R.B.I.'s each. The Golden
Eagles ended up losing 13-7.
