The volleyball team improved to an impressive 19-1 overall record and more importantly remained undefeated in the WHAC 5-0 with wins over Concordia and Lourdes this weekend. On Friday The Golden Eagles took on the Concordia Cardinals and squeaked out a hard fought 3-2 win. Concordia won the first game 25-19. CU rebounded and took game 2 and 3 (25-22, 25-20) but Concordia took the early lead in game four and held on for a 27-25 win. Cornerstone was able to tie the game 24-24 and led 25-24 on a Abby Miedema
killl. Adrienne Kanitz tied it at 25-25 and then won the next two points to force the tie-breaker.
It was the Golden Eagles who took the early lead (4-1) in game 5. The Cardinals cut the lead to 9-7 but the CU attack of Miedema, Weaver and Zwier pushed the lead to 13-7. Kate Zwier
finished the game with a kill and a 15-8 win. Grandholm finished wth match with a team high 17 kills and added 22 digs. Kim Weaver
added 11 kills, 42 assists and 13 digs. Abby Miedema
led the team with 28 digs.
The Golden Eagles traveled to Sylanvia Ohio to take on WHAC newcomer Lourdes University. Cornerstone won in 3 games (25-23, 25-22, 27-25). Ali Prus
delivered a service ace in the third game to tie it up at 24-24. Kate Zwier
delivered on one of her 8 kills to take the lead 25-24 and a setting error by Lourdes gave CU the 26-24 win. Kim Weaver
led the team with 14 kills, 27 assists and 3 service aces. Grandholm led the team with 12 digs. Cornerstone will host UM-Dearborn on Wednesday, October 12th at 7pm.
