The Golden Eagles opened their 2011-12 campaign on the road at Holy Cross and came away with a 65-52 victory.  The Golden Eagles used a big first half and rode that out for the win.  Melissa Veltkamp and Samantha Flietstra led the Golden Eagles with 22 and 16 points respectively.  Veltkamp shot just under 50% from the field making 7 of 15 shots including 3 of 9 from long range.  Veltkamp also grabbed 11 rebounds to record her first double double of the season.   Flietstra made 7 of 12 of her shots from the floor and 2 of 3 from the foul line.  The Golden Eagles didn't shoot as well in the second half and Holy Cross outscored them 27-23 but the Golden Eagles still held a 13 point lead (65-52) at the end of the game.  Cornerstone will return to action next Friday night when they take on Goshen College at the St. Francis Tournament in Fort Wayne next Friday at 3:00 p.m.
