The Golden Eagles took an early lead on Aquinas tonight and they kept it
that way for most of the half. Cornerstones
built a 30-21 lead with 5:48 left in the first half. Aquinas responded with a 12-2 run over the
next 4:31 to take a 33-32 lead with 1:27 left in the half. Justin Yoder put the Golden Eagles up 37-35
by sinking two free throws at the end of the half. Aquinas came out in the second half and took
the lead early. They held on to the lead
for a while and extended their lead to as much as 7 points (62-55) with 6:35
left in the game. Justin Yoder would cut
the lead to 62-61 with 4:41 on the clock.
Those two points put gives Yoder 1001 points in his career. The Golden Eagles tied the game a 62-62 on a
foul shot by Wes Hudson and then took the lead on the second made foul
shot. Aquinas would tie it again at
67-67 but missed some crucial foul shots down the stretch. Wes Hudson put the Golden Eagles up 70-67 on
a 3-pointer and then he made four free throws down the stretch as the Golden
Eagles held on to defeat Aquinas 74-71.
Cornerstone improves to 2-1 in the WHAC with the win.
The Golden Eagles will host Lourdes College at 3:00 p.m. as part of a double
header with the women's team.
