Zac Chambers named Men’s Tennis coach

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Director of Athletics Chip Huber is pleased to announce the hiring of Zac Chambers as the new head coach for the Men's Tennis program. Chambers most recently served as an assistant coach for Davenport University where he also played two years for the Panthers. He takes over for Dan Erickson who served as the head coach for the re-start of the program that played its first match in 2011-12.

"We are extremely excited to have Zac stepped into the role of our men's tennis coach at Cornerstone," said Huber. "He brings great knowledge and passion for tennis and a deep connection to and love for Cornerstone. He will help our student athletes to thrive as student athletes who will build meaningful relationships and grow as followers of Christ in the years to come!"

Chambers comes to Cornerstone after a standout career at nearby Davenport University where he also served as an assistant coach for the men's program under Patrick Grashorn. While an assistant for the Panthers, Chambers helped in recruiting, budgeting and practice planning while helping the team to an overall record of 32-19 in the two years.

The hire also has a family-friendly feel as Zac's father, Steve, coached at Cornerstone in the early-to-mid 90's.

"I am excited and grateful to be given this opportunity to be the men's tennis coach at Cornerstone University," said Chambers. "It is a humbling feeling that God has given me this opportunity to follow in my father's footsteps. It will make the experience that much better and I am looking forward to getting with the team to work hard and be better than we were the day before both on and off the court."

"It's really cool to step back and look at it big-picture wise and think about it and filling the shoes of what he once did," Chambers said. "Not only him, but what the family put into Cornerstone, and it's just a great thing to be a part of."

While playing at Davenport from 2012-2014, Chambers posted a singles record of 30-22 while he went 42-17 in doubles, mainly partnered with his brother, Tyler.

Cornerstone posted a 14-10 overall record in 2016-17 and moved up to their highest-ever ranking in the NAIA of No. 19 in the April 11th poll.
