AUGUSTA, Mich. -
Ty Mero and
Zach Paavola led the way for the Cornerstone men's golf team opened up the 2018 WHAC Championships today at Stonehedge North and the Golden Eagles posted a pair of 326's to sit in ninth place. Mero and Paavola matched each other with a 157 36-hole score and the team will finish its season on Tuesday with an 8:30 a.m. start on the North Course.
Cornerstone sits in ninth place overall at the conference tourney with a two-round total of 652. Northwestern Ohio, who won the regular season title, sits in the lead at 9-under par 567. They are followed by Indiana Tech, Lawrence Tech and Madonna in the team standings.
Ty Mero led the way with an opening round 78 and the freshman followed it up with a 79 in the second to sit in 22 place overall. He is tied with teammate
Zach Paavola who posted rounds of 80-77. The Golden Eagles' scoring was rounded out by
Will Clarke (87-82) and
Josh Maas (81-88).
The team will finish the 54-hole event on Tuesday with an 8:30 tee-time for the first group.
