GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – A day after naming a new men's golf coach, Director of Athletics
Chip Huber has announced
Erin Grotenhuis as the new Cornerstone women's golf coach. Grotenhuis, a Grand Rapids native, is a graduate of Bethel College in Mishawaka. and is a local high school graduate of NorthPointe Christian.
"Erin is a great fit for Cornerstone University and someone that will lead the program in a very special way," said
Aaron Sagraves, Assistant Director of Athletics. "Her experience as a student athlete at the NAIA level not only on the course but in the classroom will make a direct impact on our program and in our department. We are excited to have her lead this group of young women in their faith journey and academic career as well as competitively in the WHAC and NAIA"
Grotenhuis comes to Cornerstone after a standout career at Bethel College where she helped the Pilots compete in four NAIA National Championship tournaments. She was chosen as a Champions of Character in the Crossroads League and earned NCCAA and CL Player of the Week honors during her four seasons. Before attending Bethel, Erin was a standout on the NorthPointe Christian High School team
"I feel so privileged to have this amazing opportunity to join the Cornerstone family and golf team as the head coach, said Grotenhuis. "Golf has always been an important part of my life, including my college career and I'm so excited to be able to provide that same experience to Cornerstone's student athletes and I cannot wait to invest into each player and grow the team to our full potential."
The Golden Eagles graduated four players from last year's team including captain and top scorer in
Claire Niergarth but have a bright future with three sophomores returning who all made impacts on the team this past spring.
Brooke Statema,
Katrina Goebel and
Rebecca Robinson all gained valuable experience and will look to lead the team under the direction of coach Grotenhuis.
"My hope is to continue to develop this program as a competitive contender and also equip our players to succeed not only in golf and academics, but for the future. Our team can best represent the mission of Cornerstone by playing with integrity and sportsmanship which will allow us to be representatives of Jesus Christ."
Erin currently resides in Grand Rapids, MI with her husband Ian, who also works at Cornerstone, and their daughter, Avery.
