GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - After a very successful playing career in which he set the program mark for total wins, former Cornerstone student athlete Austin Hendrick has been named the new Men's Tennis Head Coach, as announced by Director of Athletics, Chip Huber. Hendrick begins his duties immediately and leads the team into the fall season in which they report for at the end of next week. 

"Austin is an outstanding young leader who we are very excited to have as our new men's tennis coach, said Huber. "He has an outstanding tennis mind and has been involved in tennis as a coach and player for many years.  He also has a deep passion to see his players grow as young men in their athletic, academic, and spiritual life pursuits."

Hendrick was a standout for the Golden Eagles since stepping foot on the campus back in the fall of 2014. Over those four seasons, he helped the program to its highest national ranking of No. 19 in 2017 and an overall record of 47-37-1 after seeing the program post just 22 total wins in the three seasons prior.

"I'm extremely excited to be a coach at Cornerstone, said Austin. "Since I was a freshman in high school I knew that I've wanted to be a coach. I love being able to have a direct impact on a group of guys and help them spiritually, grow in character and their work ethic." 

Austin became the program's all-time leader in wins during his senior season as he finished with an overall total of 119 (56 singles and 63 doubles). He earned 1st Team All-WJAC Honors in doubles his senior season as we as Honorable Mention Doubles as a freshman. He was also chosen as the WHAC's Champions of Character team three times during his career.

When asked was kind of direct impact he can have on the program, Austin answered "I get to have a direct impact on the character aspect of my guys. How do we represent ourselves and the school during matches. How do we practice each day. How do we treat each other, our opponents, and other facilities that we use. This is one area I'm excited to have a direct impact on."

Hendrick takes over a program that brings back a very young core of players as they feature only one senior and four sophomores.
