LIVONIA, Mich. – The No. 24 ranked Golden Eagles opened league play today and battled the host Madonna Crusaders throughout the 40 minutes but could not overcome a sluggish shooting day as they fell 65-58. The loss drops Cornerstone to 2-2 on the young season as they will come back home on Wednesday, November 19 for a 5:30 p.m. tip against Lourdes at Mol Arena.
Game Flow
In a low scoring opening half, the host Crusaders struck first but it would be a back and forth 20 minutes of play as there were five lead changes and three ties. Madonna held the 4-point lead at the break however as they used an 8-2 run to close the half to lead 27-23.
Early in the second, the lead grew to eight for Madonna at 38-30 but after a three from Taryn Sack (FR/Grand Rapids, Mich.), the Golden Eagles had trimmed it to just three with 10:50 to play. Unfortunately for CU, that would be as close as they could get as the Crusaders finished with the seven point win
