No. 3 IWU uses big 2nd half to defeat Women’s Basketball

MARION, Ind. – The third Top-25 matchup of the season so far and second against a Top-5 ranked opponent started well but the No. 3 ranked Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats used a 16-point second half advantage to defeat visiting Cornerstone 73-55 on Saturday afternoon. The loss drops the Golden Eagles to 4-4 on the season as they will resume play on Wednesday against UM-Dearborn at home inside Mol Arena. Tip against the Wolverines is set for 5:30 p.m. 



Game Flow

Playing their second straight Top-20 opponent on the road started strong for the No. 24 ranked Golden Eagles as they held a lead for most of the opening 20 minutes but after holding a 2-point edge on a layup from Jill Steenwyk (JR/Sparta, Mich.) with 1:53 remaining in the first half, CU saw the Wildcats score the final four points to take a 30-28 lead into the locker room.

IWU, ranked No. 3 in the NAIA Top-25 poll then came out in the second and increased the margin to double-digits in the first 6:47 and eventually up to 20 just over hallway through the second twenty minutes. CU did get back to within on a 3-pointer from Steenwyk but the Wildcats proved too tough improving to 7-1 on the year with the win.
