DEERFIELD, Ill. – Jill Steenwyk (JR/Sparta, Mich.) posted a double-double of 13 points and 16 rebounds and the Golden Eagle defense was in full force as the No. 24 ranked women's basketball team posted a 52-39 road win at Trinity International on Saturday night. The victory is the first of the year as Cornerstone will host Rochester College on Monday in their home opener at 6 p.m.

Game Flow

After falling in their season opener to No. 1 Saint Francis (Ind.) on Wednesday, the Golden Eagles wasted little time in getting a lead on the road as they raced out to a 6-0 lead. That margin grew to as many as 13 in the first half on a layup from Samantha Kolenda (SO/Sparta, Mich.) with just over five minutes to play but the Trojans cut the lead down to five (25-20) at the break.

Head coach Katie Mattera and her team re-grouped after a slow finish and after a 10-0 spurt to start the second half upped the lead to 15, CU never let it get under double-digits again. The largest lead was 16 with 9:28 to play on a 3-pointer from Kolenda.

By the Numbers
39 – The point total CU allowed was its lowest since allowing just 30 against Trinity Christian on 12/18/12

13/16 – Rebounds and points accounted for by junior Jill Steenwyk

23 – Despite being forced into 23 turnovers, CU still won by 13 points

2/10 – CU limited the Trojans to just 2/10 from behind the arc – through two games, CU has limited its foes to a combined 5/30 from long-range
