GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Mol Arena has been very friendly to the Cornerstone women's basketball team this year as they improved their home record to 9-1 with a 63-53 win over Northwestern Ohio. The victory lifts the Golden Eagles to 17-7 on the year and 12-4 in the WHAC. Cornerstone will head to Indiana Tech on Wednesday to face the Warriors in a 5:30 p.m. tip.

Game Flow

The first half was good for the Golden Eagles over the first 10 minutes but then the Racers controlled the final 10 with the two teams heading to the locker room tied 31-31. CU jumped out to a quick 9-2 and they would hold a 6-9 point lead for most of the opening 10 minutes. The Racers then used strong defense which led to easy buckets to chip away at the lead, getting it tied up at the break.

Needing a fast start to the second is exactly what CU got as they scored 16 of the first 20 points to build their largest lead of 12 at 47-35 with 12 minutes to play. Five straight points from the Racers forced head coach Katie Mattera into a timeout and they responded by scoring the next four points on their way to posting the 10-point win.

Say What?

"It was good for us to come out and defend our home court especially with a big road game up next at Indiana Tech. We had lapses today but came together at the right times and hit some big shots." Head Coach Katie Mattera
