GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Cornerstone women's basketball team continues to roll along as they have now won six consecutive games against NAIA foes after a 73-57 victory over Indiana Tech on Wednesday night. The win lifts the Golden Eagles to 11-6 on the year while they improve to 6-3 in the WHAC. CU will stay at home this weekend when they host Marygrove College at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Game Flow
In a slow start to the game for both teams that saw only five points scored in the first four minutes of play, CU was able to grab an early 3-2 lead which slowly grew as the half went on in which they would eventually lead by as many as 10 (23-13). The Warriors though finished strong and had the margin down to just four at 27-23 at the break.
The second half opened with Cornerstone posting a 15-6 run to up their lead back to double-digits at 42-29 which was the largest of the game to that point. Tech kept the lead between 6-10 points but Cornerstone was too strong behind the balanced offense of Ashley Niedermayer (SR/Lincolnshire, Ill) (16), Jill Hendrickson (JR/Ada, Mich.) (17) and Emma Lockhart (SO/Reed City, Mich.) (13) who all finished in double-figures.
Say What?
"Coach has really been stressing taking care of the ball in practice and our guards have done a good job of handling ball pressure. That has enabled up to get better looks and have more rhythm on offense." Senior Ashley Niedermayer
