GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Kerri Hoffman (SR/Hamilton, Mich.) scored a goal in each half but the senior's second two-goal output in her last three matches was not enough as Indiana Tech scored the game winner in the 89' to post a 3-2 win. The loss drops the Golden Eagles to 8-5 on the season and 2-3 in league play. Cornerstone will welcome NAIA No. 2 Northwestern Ohio to Grand Rapids on Saturday for a 4:30 kick.
Game Flow…
Looking to move into the top half of the conference standings, the Golden Eagles were unable to get the upperhand in the first half as the Warriors used some constant pressure and put one by the CU keeper in the 19' minute of play. Cornerstone got the equalizer with just 3:32 to play in the half when Kerri Hoffman hit one home in the upper left corner from about 18 yards out. Unfortunately, the tie lasted only 2:16 as IT scored the go ahead goal at 43:44 and went into the locker room leading 2-1.
Cornerstone came out much more aggressive in the second half as just 12:26 in, they got the tying goal as Kerri Hoffman put away a loose ball after Jessica Erny (JR/Spring Lake, Mich.) crossed it into the box.
When it looked as if the match would go into extra time, Indiana Tech's Michelle Landry put away a deflected shot in the 89' which turned out to be the game winner.
Quotable…
"We dug ourselves a hole in the first because we did not come out aggressive. That changed and we held the advantage in the second but a late goal hurts and now we have to regroup and get ready for a strong UNO team on Saturday." Head coach Randy Strawser
Inside the Box…
- Cornerstone outshot Indiana Tech 12-8 (9-6 on goal)
- Kerri Hoffman has now scored four goals in her last three matches and leads the team with seven on the year
- Allison Snowden (JR/Kalamazoo, Mich.) finished with three saves in net
What's on Tap?...
