Seniors lead women’s soccer over Aquinas 5-1

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The senior class for Cornerstone accounted for three goals in the opening half to give the women's soccer team a 3-1 lead and Bria West (JR/Holland, Mich.) added two in the second to send CU to a 5-1 win over Aquinas. The victory improves Cornerstone to 12-6-0 on the year and 6-4-0 in the WHAC as they move into a tie for fourth with Concordia with 18 points. CU will host Concordia on Wednesday at 2 p.m.

Game Flow…
Cornerstone came out aggressive knowing a win would most likely clinch a home-tourney match and they were led by their seniors. Josie Litty (SR/Hudsonville, Mich.) scored the first of her two goals in the first half on a header after a cross from Jessica Erny (JR/Spring Lake, Mich.) in the 4'. Kerri Hoffman (SR/Hamilton, Mich.) added to the lead just 15 minutes later when she put away a rebound off a shot from Lexie Brisson-Fast (SR/Ferndale, Mich.) and Litty rounded out the scoring in the opening half in the final 10 seconds to put CU up 3-1.

Bria West then had two goals in the second half to finish the scoring, with the first of her goals coming on a rocket from just outside the box after she played a perfect touch off of a pass from Rebekah Eggleston (SR/Hisperia, Mich.).

Cornerstone, tied with Concordia for the fourth spot in the upcoming WHAC Tournament, will host the Cardinals thanks to a head to head win over them during the regular season. The quarterfinal match will be played on Wednesday, November 4 at 2 p.m.
