Box Score

WYOMING, Mich.  – The Golden Eagles travelled across town to Wyoming to make up a game that was cancelled due to a power outage back on Sept. 15th and CU came away with a 2-0 victory over Grace Bible.  The win lifts Cornerstone to 8-4 overall as they will have the weekend off before resuming play Wednesday at home against Indiana Tech.

Game Flow…

Cornerstone started well in the attack today as they kept the ball and attacked the Tiger goalkeeper from the opening whistle.  The Golden Eagles got on the board in the 16th minute of play when Tori Johns played a through ball to Lexie Brisson-Fast for a 1 v 1 with the keeper.  Brisson-Fast slid the ball past the on rushing GK to give Cornerstone a 1-0 lead.  The Golden Eagles continue to press the Tigers throughout the half forcing their GK to make 4 saves but they couldn't figure how to get the ball by her and into the goal.

Cornerstone came out in the second half and did much the same forcing their GK into making 7 more saves in the half.  Alexys Riksen beat her player to the end line and then slid a nice ball into Haley Christensen who struck the ball with the inside of her right foot into the far post to put the Golden Eagles up 2-0.  The Golden Eagles controlled most of the play but never could quite figure out how to get high quality shots in the game.  Cornerstone outshot  the Tigers 31-1 in the game.  The Golden Eagles improved to 8-4 on the season.

Quotable…

"Grace Bible is no longer an easy win.  They have recruited some nice players that can play the game well.  They make it real hard to get in to good scoring positions.  We just didn't make a lot of good tactical decisions in the offensive third to help us get better shots.  They packed it in a bit but we didn't do a great job of unlocking them in the back."
