HAMMOND, Ind. – Cornerstone led 42-37 with 2:49 remaining in the third quarter but a 10-0 run gave Robert Morris a lead they would never relinquish as CU fell 64-51. The loss to the No. 18 ranked team in the country is the first of the season for the Golden Eagles as they will look to regroup on Saturday when they face No. 11 Purdue Calumet at 3 p.m. EST.
Game Flow
The first half was full of turnovers and fouls for both teams but the Golden Eagles maintained a small edge throughout and despite turning the ball over 17 times, CU held a 30-26 lead at the break. Jill Steenwyk (SR/Sparta, Mich.) posted 16 opening half points including 4/6 shooting from behind the arc.
CU continued to up their lead in the second and with 2:49 remaining in the third quarter, held a 5-point edge at 42-37. Unfortunately, Cornerstone would then go 9:48 without a field goal and only three free throws as Robert Morris took the lead and ran away with the 13-point win.
