DETROIT, Mich. – After suffering a tough defeat to Siena Heights on Wednesday, the women's basketball team rebounded with a 71-66 win at Marygrove College on Saturday afternoon. The victory lifts head coach Katie Mattera and her Golden Eagles to 19-9 on the season and 14-6 in league play. CU will resume play on February 18 when they welcome in Aquinas College for a 5:30 p.m. tip.

Game Flow
Cornerstone fell behind early but after a 7-0 spurt with buckets from Ashley Niedermayer (SR/Lincolnshire, Ill), Jill Hendrickson (JR/Ada, Mich.) and Emma Lockhart (SO/Reed City, Mich.), CU would never trail again. The lead grew to as many as 11 in the opening half but the Mustangs closed the half trailing by only six 38-32.

The lead would hover between 7-10 points for the opening 10 minutes of the second half and CU took full control with a 9-3 run to put them up by 16 with 10:14 to play. Marygrove did slowly chip away at the lead and had chances down the stretch to tie it but CU held on for the 5-point win.

Say What?
"It is always good to go on the road and pick up a win especially after coming off a loss. We need to continue to improve on some specific things as we head into the conference tournament" Head coach Katie Mattera
