GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Seniors Ashley Niedermayer (SR/Lincolnshire, Ill) and Jill Hendrickson (JR/Ada, Mich.) combined for 41 points and 20 rebounds as the host Golden Eagles defeated their cross-town rivals 71-64 on senior night. The win lifts Cornerstone to 20-9 on the year and 15-6 in league play. CU will conclude the regular season on Saturday at Lawrence Tech at 1 p.m.
Game Flow
The visitors from just down the street took control of the game and held the lead for the entire first half. Aquinas used four triples from Allison Heberlein in the opening 20 minutes to build their largest lead of 10 (27-17) but CU would close the half on a 14-5 run to trail by only one 31-31.
Cornerstone continued their run into the second half and outscored the Saints 12-3 in the first five minutes to lead 43-35. Aquinas continued to get most of their production from behind the arc and battled back to take a lead with just under two minutes to play. CU then started their run and outscored the Saints 10-2 over the final 1:30 to take the 71-64 win.
