FORT WAYNE, Ind. – In the first of a tough three-game stretch for the women's basketball team, Cornerstone was not able to overcome a 4-point halftime deficit as they fell 61-56 to Indiana Tech. The loss is the first to a team other than Davenport since the start of December as the Golden Eagles fall to 17-8 on the year and 12-5 in the WHAC. CU will look to rebound when they host No. 25 Madonna on Saturday.
Game Flow
Cornerstone jumped out to an early six-point lead but the Warriors quickly erased that and the two teams played back and forth for most of the opening half with a late spurt by IT the difference in a 28-24 lead at the break for the home team. CU made just nine field goals in the opening half.
The Warriors made a big push early in the second half to up their lead to the largest of the game at 10 points and it looked as if the home team would walk away with an upset win. But the Golden Eagles came back strong and had the lead down with within five for a majority of the final five minutes. Tech was too tough behind the play of Taylor Carver who had 17 points and 9 rebounds in the win.
Say What?
"We struggled tonight to get anything going offensively and then when we did score, we gave them open looks on the other end. It is tough to win on the road when you are doing those types of things" Head Coach Katie Mattera
