HOLLAND, Mich. – The 2015 campaign opened today for the CU women's soccer team and unfortunately they were met with a very tough Hope College team as they fell 5-0. The loss sends the Golden Eagles to Chicago over the weekend still in search of their first win as they take on Saint Xavier on Friday and Saint Francis (Ill.) on Saturday. Live video will be available for both matches.
Game Flow…
Cornerstone controlled most of the play in the opening 10 minutes but then the Flying Dutch took over with a stiff wind behind their backs as they netted back to back goal less than four minutes apart at the 20:44 and 24:13 marks. Hope put up two more in the opening 45 with the last one coming with just less than five minutes to play on a ball that squirted through the box and into the net.
After making some adjustments at half, Cornerstone showed some strong signs in the opening few minutes but the Dutch struck again 15 minutes in to up their lead to 5-0 and that would be the final tally. Allison Snowden (JR/Kalamazoo, Mich.) took the loss in net while making eight saves on the day.
Quotable…
"Today was a tough outcome in the season opener as Hope played really well and took advantage of our mistakes. We re-grouped at halftime and played better in the second 45 and have some things to work on before our trip to Chicago this weekend" – Head Coach Randy Strawser
