GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Cornerstone continued their tough road stretch to start the league season and came away with a dominant 2-0 win at Davenport on Wednesday night. The Golden Eagles, who outshot the Panthers 22-7 on the evening, improve to 6-3-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the WHAC. CU will continue their road stretch on Saturday at Noon against Madonna.
Game Flow…
The first half saw the flow of play happen between the 18's with Cornerstone having a few good chances but were unable to connect to get one by the keeper and the score remained 0-0 after 45 minutes.
As the second half opened, Cornerstone continued to maintain control of the ball and just two minutes in, Bria West (JR/Holland, Mich.) connected with Josie Litty (SR/Hudsonville, Mich.) on a nice goal to put the Golden Eagles up 1-0. That score held until late in the match when freshman Alexys Riksen (FR/Grand Haven, Mich.) scored on a loose ball in the box to finish off the scoring.
Quotable…
"We knew this was a big match for both teams and after not coming away with a win at SHU on Saturday, needed this one in a tough stretch to start the WHAC. Josie's goal was one we have been working on for a while and Bria made a great run. It was a great team win" – Head coach Randy Strawser
