CHICAGO, Ill. – Searching for their first win of the season in the windy city, Cornerstone got an early goal from freshman Alexys Riksen (FR/Grand Haven, Mich.) and then held off a Saint Xavier rally to post a 1-0 win. The victory evens the Golden Eagles' record at 1-1 on the season as they face St. Francis (Ill.) on Saturday at 1 p.m. EST.

Game Flow…
After opening the season with a 5-0 setback against Hope on Tuesday, the Golden Eagles quickly put that behind them with a goal in the seventh minute on a nice shot from freshman Alexys Riksen. The goal was recorded from about 15 yards out on a nice feed from Teigan Mitcham (SR/Grand Rapids, Mich.) and the tally was the only one of the opening half with CU leading 1-0 after 45 minutes.

Both offenses were clicking a little more in the second half with St. Xavier holding a 7-6 lead in shots but none of the 13 were able to find the back of the net with Allison Snowden (JR/Kalamazoo, Mich.) finishing with a shutout in net for Cornerstone. The junior goalkeeper posted three saves on the afternoon.

Quotable…
"It was definitely exciting (on scoring first collegiate goal) but most importantly it boosted my confidence. I'm glad to score and help my tea, and glorify God. I cannot wait for an amazing season." – Freshman Alexys Riksen

Inside the Box…
The total shots were tied at 9-9 but CU held a 6-3 edge in shots on net
