JOLIET, Ill. – A late goal in the first half sent Cornerstone into the lockeroom down 1-0 and the Fighting Saints added two more in the second to send the Golden Eagles to a 3-0 setback. The loss drops the team to 1-2-0 on the season as they prepare for their home opener on Wednesday against St. Francis (Ind.).
Game Flow…
The Golden Eagles played their third straight game going into a pretty stiff wind in the first half of play. Cornerstone controlled the ball well throughout the first half but the Saints got on the board first hitting a 35 yard free kick to go up 1-0 with about 5 minutes left in the first half.
Cornerstone tried to equalize early in the second half but fell victims to a Saints counter attack goal in the 65th minute to go down 2-0. The Saints got a third goal on a PK in the 78th minute. The Golden Eagles got a few corner kicks late in the game but couldn't get on the board in the loss.
