Slow start dooms women’s hoops in road loss

LIVONIA, Mich. – The host Crusaders of Madonna started the game on an 8-0 run, increased it to double-figures into the second and CU played catch up the entire game as their comeback fell short in an 82-66 loss. The setback drops the Golden Eagles to 10-9 on the season and 8-4 in the league as they will play at Aquinas on Wednesday in their next contest.

Game Flow
Madonna started the game on fire compared to Cornerstone starting it ice cold. The Crusaders came out hot as they scored the first eight points of the game and CU did not get on the board until the 4:57 mark of the first quarter. That was one of only three made field goals in the opening quarter as the Golden Eagles fell behind 18-9. Madonna increased that margin to as many as 13 (31-18) but Cornerstone closed out the half scoring the final six points to cut the margin to just seven (31-24) at the break.

Madonna then came out hot again to start the third as they upped the lead to as many as 15 in the opening minutes and CU fought from behind again. Cornerstone did manage to cut the margin down to five after a 3-pointer from Jesse Sheridan (FR/Argyle, Texas) but the Crusaders responded with an 8-0 run to full take charge and go on to the win.
