DETROIT, Mich. – The Cornerstone women's basketball team rang in the new year with a commanding 80-41 win over Marygrove on Saturday afternoon. The victory lifts the Golden Eagles back above the .500 mark at 8-7 overall as they are 6-2 in league play. CU will return to action on Wednesday in a road contest at Indiana Tech.
Game Flow
Defense was the name of the game in the opening half as Cornerstone raced out to a 13-4 lead after 10 minutes of play and increased that margin to 38-15 at the break. The Golden Eagles shot just 34.8% in the opening half but limited the host Mustangs to a dismal 17.8% which included just five made field goals and five made free-throws.
The second half continued with more defense from CU as they held Marygrove to under 10 for the third straight quarter. CU outscored the Mustangs 22-8 to take a commanding 60-23 lead after 30 minutes of play. Cornerstone finished the game by winning the fourth quarter as well 20-18 for the final of 80-41.
