Strong second half carries women’s hoops to home win

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Cornerstone trailed 15-12 at the end of the first quarter and held just a 1-point lead at the break but the Golden Eagles outscored Lourdes 41-22 in the second half to post a 69-49 win at home. The victory lifts Cornerstone to 12-9 on the year and 10-4 in league play. CU will remain at home for their next two games beginning Wednesday with nationally ranked Lawrence Tech at 5:30 p.m.

Game Flow
The Golden Eagles came out ice cold from the field as they connected on just four of their first 22 shots from the field and they trailed 15-12 after 10 minutes of play. The shots started to fall in the second as CU finished making seven of their next 10 including a Taylor Richards (FR/Fruitport, Mich.) buzzer-beater to lead the Gray Wolves 28-27 at the break.

The run continued into the third quarter as Cornerstone outscored LU 24-12 to take a 52-40 lead after three and the spurt was highlighted by 12 points from freshman Jesse Sheridan (FR/Argyle, Texas). CU then finished off the Gray Wolves with a 17-9 advantage in the fourth quarter as every player on the roster was able to get minutes.
