GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Cornerstone trailed by 13 at the break on Saturday and had the margin down to just six midway through the third quarter but the depth of the No. 6 ranked Panthers was too much as CU fell 83-57. The loss drops the Golden Eagles to 9-8 on the season and 7-3 in league play as they will host Concordia on Wednesday at 5:30 in their next contest
Game Flow
The first few minutes of the game saw both defenses rise to the occasion but a late run by the Panthers gave them a 20-14 lead at the end of the first quarter. CU stayed within striking distance but again, a run with under 3:00 to play in the second enabled DU to go into the locker room leading 34-21.
Cornerstone came out hot in the second half and scored the first eight points to cut the lead to five only to see DU score seven in a row to up the lead back into double-figures. Then Tanner Hostetler (SR/Archbold, Ohio) (triple) and back to back buckets from Sarah Morrell (FR/Plainwell, Mich.) had the margin down to six (41-35) but that would be as close as CU would get as the bench for Davenport took over and senior Alex Law got hot from the field in route to her game high 19 points.
