Women’s Basketball set to host Lawrence Tech and Saint Francis

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles will conclude a season long three game homestand vs. receiving votes Lawrence Tech on Saturday at 1 p.m., and vs. Saint Francis (Ind.) on Tuesday at noon. CU looks to expand on their two game winning streak and dominant 5-1 record at home. Both games will have live video, audio, and stats available on the Cornerstone Sports Network (CSPN).

Scouting Lawrence Tech
Lawrence Tech is looking to build off a record setting year in 2015-16 where they recorded a school record 24 wins and a second place finish in the WHAC. The Blue Devils are 8-4, 5-2 WHAC so far this season. LTU starts two seniors, two sophomores, and a freshman that have been dominant defensively ranking 18th in the country in scoring defense, allowing opponents just 56.2 PPG. LTU is balanced statistically, as Nicole Buckingham leads the team in scoring at 16.9 per game, Alison Kitchen leads in rebounds at 6.3 per game, and Hayley Walkowski leads in assists at 2.8 per game.
 
History vs. The Blue Devils
Cornerstone has not given Lawrence Tech a friendly welcome since LTU entered the WHAC five years ago, as CU is 7-1 all-time in the series. The only loss came on the road last season, but CU rebounded to upset No. 16 Lawrence Tech at home 63-60 in the second and final game of the year.

Scouting Saint Francis
The Cougars are suffering their first losing record since the 2007-08 season as they currently sit at 4-7. USF competes in the Crossroads League and has a 2-2 record in conference so far. Saint Francis has eight freshman on the roster as one of those freshman Kara Gerka leads the team in scoring at 14.1 PPG and rebounds at 8.0 RPG. USF moves the ball very well for being a young team ranking 19th in the nation with 15.5 APG.
 
History vs. The Cougars
The Golden Eagles have played USF just two times since 2011 and have gone 0-2. Saint Francis beat CU in both 2011 and 2014 by 13 points each time, as the Cougars were ranked in the top ten nationally in both those appearances. 
 
Sheridan's Honors
Sophomore Jesse Sheridan's incredible performance earned her National Player of the Week and WHAC Player of the Week for the first time in her career. In two games, Sheridan averaged 28.5 PPG, shooting over 50% from the field and 60% from behind the arc. Sheridan also recorded a career high 30 points and eight rebounds against Madonna this past week.

Big Three Emerging
The trio of Jesse Sheridan, Cass Vredevoogd, and Lizzy Otten is really starting to emerge as an offensive threat to opponents. The trio combined for 66% of the scoring in the past two games, with 107 of the teams 162 points. The three players all average above 8.3 PPG on the year, and have been top three in scoring each of the past two games.
 
Otten Dropping Dimes
Transfer guard Lizzy Otten got the opportunity to play her former team for the first time last week and did not disappoint, recording a collegiate career high seven assists in the win. Otten leads the team in assists so far this season with a total of 40, averaging 3.3 per game.
 
A Look Ahead to the Holiday Classic
As we enter the holiday season, Cornerstone will prepare to participate in the fourth annual DU Holiday Classic. The tournament will be held on December 29th and 30th and the Golden Eagles will face No. 1 Saint Francis (Ill.) and Bethel College. Tip is set for 5 p.m. for both games at the DU Student Center.
 
Success in Close Games
Cornerstone has seen significant success in close games so far this year. The Golden Eagles are 1-0 in games decided by under five points and 3-0 in games decided by 6-10 points this season. CU also picked up an overtime win on the road at Lourdes giving them their first overtime win since the 2011-12 season when they beat Indiana Northwest 68-65 in OT.
