GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – In a heavily back and forth match, two second half goals helped Cornerstone prevail 3-2 over Saint Francis (Ill.) giving them their first win of 2016. The Golden Eagles now hold a 1-0-1 record on the year, as they will continue the home stand on Friday night vs. Huntington for the annual Night of Nets match.
Game Flow…
After Cornerstone got off some early shots to begin the match, Saint Francis responded with the first goal of the game in the 23
rd minute off a defensive error by the Golden Eagles. CU then responded in the 39
th minute with their first goal of the season scored by freshman
Annie Sidler off a beautiful pass across the box by
Kelsey Gensler making the halftime score 1-1.
The second half began similarly to the first as USF again got an early goal by Alex Truhlar to give them the lead back at 2-1, but a quick response by
Bria West helped tie the game back up at 2-2.
Kelsey Gensler then put in the game winner in the 73
rd minute off of a cross by
Jessica Erny making the final score 3-2.
