ADRIAN, Mich. – A poor first and fourth quarter were too much to overcome for the women's basketball team tonight as they saw their 2016-17 season come to a close with a 74-49 loss to Siena Heights in the WHAC Tournament quarterfinals. Cornerstone ends their campaign at 14-17 overall.
Game Flow
The opening quarter (19-10 deficit) and fourth quarter (21-10 deficit) were too much for the Golden Eagles to overcome on Wednesday night as they saw their season close in the first round of the conference tournament. SHU opened the game on a 7-1 run and extended their lead to nine at the end of the first quarter. CU battled back in the second and after a triple from
Emma Lockhart with 6:20 remaining, trailed by only three. The Saints however responded with a 12-3 run to close the half to take a 34-22 lead into the break.
Cornerstone stayed within five early in the third (40-35) but the Saints slowly started to pull away and took a 14-point advantage into the fourth quarter. SHU then put the game away with an 11-0 run to up their lead to 25 and they went on to win by the same margin.
