ANN ARBOR, Mich. – After a postponement against Lourdes on Friday, the Golden Eagle softball team returned to the field on Saturday as they split a WHAC doubleheader at Concordia. CU dropped the opener 2-1 before rallying for a 3-2 win in the nightcap. The split leaves Cornerstone at 6-14 overall and 1-3 in league action as they will host Calvin on Thursday and Aquinas on Friday.
Game Flow
Game 1 – Concordia scored a run in both the first and second innings. The Golden Eagles rallied in the seventh inning and got a run home, but were ultimately unable to overcome the deficit.
Annie Fila had two hits and scored the only run for Cornerstone.
Game 2 – Concordia jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning. The Golden Eagles had a big two-out rally in the fifth inning, as
Caitlyn Hartline and
Annie Fila had back-to-back RBI doubles.
Annie Fila went on to score off the bat of
Alicia Ontiveros to make it 3-1. The Cardinals got a run back in the fifth inning but the Golden Eagles held on for a 3-2 victory, the first conference victory of the season.
