Scouting the Tigers
Grace Bible College is from just down the road in Wyoming, Michigan and they compete in the National Christian Collegiate Athletic Association (NCCAA). GBC has started the year at 1-2-0, with their lone win coming against NAIA opponent Holy Cross College. The TIgers have not started the year with an easy schedule, playing two NAIA opponents and an NCAA Division III opponent in their first three games.
Scouting the Maple Leafs
Coming off of a 6-10-3 record and eighth place finish in the Crossroads League in 2016, the Maple Leafs have started 2017 with a 2-2-1 overall record. Goshen sees an incredibly young roster this season with 13 freshman and eight sophomores on the 26-player roster. GC is led offensively by a sophomore in Taliah Borom who has four goals already in 2017. Borom has stepped up in a huge way, as she only played in one game as a freshman and did not score. Defensively Goshen has a freshman in Katie Baer in net, who has recorded an .853 save percentage in her first five games as a Maple Leaf.
History vs. GBC
Cornerstone has dominated Grace Bible in their short history, going 6-0-0 all-time vs. the Tigers. CU recorded a shutout in each of the first five appearances, as GBC recorded their first goal ever vs. the Golden Eagles in last year's matchup.
History vs. Goshen
CU has also been incredibly dominant over Goshen in their history, hoisting a 15-1-0 record all-time. The only loss for Cornerstone came in their first ever meeting in 1997 when Goshen earned a 3-1 victory. Just last season, the Golden Eagles hosted the Maple Leafs and earned a 2-0 win.
Mick's Surprising Start
Freshman
Erica Mick has played just 134 minutes for the Golden Eagles, but her impact has been noted, scoring two goals (one game winning goal) in the first four games. The freshman from Clinton Township, Michigan leads Cornerstone in goals (2) and points (4) in the early season. Mick was a three-sport athlete at Parkway Christian High School, as she played volleyball, basketball, and soccer for the Eagles.
Night of Nets Results
Last weekend the Golden Eagles two home soccer games served as the annual Night of Nets games for the women's soccer program. Cornerstone, Aquinas, Trinity Christian, and Huntington all took part in a weekend tournament where donations were taken to raise money for bed nets to help end Malaria in Africa. The schools combined to raise roughly 3500 dollars that will be used to purchase 600 bed nets to be sent to Africa.
