Shepperd scores emotional goal in 1-1 tie for Women's Soccer

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.- The Cornerstone Golden Eagles tied 1-1 with Lawrence Tech; the first tie of the 2018 season. Tonight, at Cornerstone University's field was a pink out for breast cancer awareness in honor of Makayela Shepperd mother, who was in attendance. Shepperd made the night even more special by netting her first career goal in the 71st minute of the game to tie the match. The Golden Eagles are now 8-7-1, 4-5-1 WHAC as they will travel to Madonna for the final game of the regular season.
 
What you need to know
-     The Golden Eagles outshot the Blue Devils of Lawrence Tech 11-3 in the first half. The shot on goal battle was closer as Lawrence Tech had three compared to Cornerstone's two.
-     There was a foul by CU inside the box that lead to an LTU penalty kick goal by Katelyn Mather in the 28th minute of the first half.
-     Makayela Shepperd scored her first career goal in the 71st minute of the cancer game, honoring Shepperd's mother.
-     Goalkeeper, Mikayla Johnson played the entire 110-minute game and tallied four saves.
-     In the two 10-minute overtimes that were played there were only two shots on goal, one for each team.
-     Lawrence Tech had three players with at least one shot on goal in the game, while Cornerstone had six.
