Season concludes for Women’s Soccer in 1-0 WHAC Quarterfinal loss at Aquinas

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles were unable to come up with an upset on Halloween evening falling 1-0 at Aquinas in the WHAC Quarterfinal. With the loss, the 2018 campaign comes to an end for Cornerstone, as they finish with a 9-8-1, 5-5-1 WHAC record. Head coach Randy Strawser and the Golden Eagles will now look to build upon this season and begin preparation for the 2019 season. 

What you need to know
  • Neither team could find much offense in the first 10 minutes as only three shots were recorded none of them being on net. 
  • Aquinas was able to find the net after a turnover in the midfield led to a quick pass and dribble as Katie Vitella placed the ball on the ground past keeper Mikayala Johnson to take a 1-0 lead in the 22ndminute. 
  •  The offense picked up in the last 15 minutes of the first half but neither team was able to find the net again resulting in a 1-0 Aquinas lead after 45 minutes.  
  • Mikayla Johnson made a couple great saves in the second half to keep the deficit at just one goal. 
  • Meredith Haddad and Erica Mick each had a chance in the final five minutes of the match to score but both shots were saved by the Aquinas keeper.
  • Cornerstone's season ended with a 1-0 loss in the WHAC Quarterfinal.
