GRAND RAPIDS - Mich. – The Golden Eagles will continue a four-game stretch inside Mol Arena getting back to conference action as the team will take on No. 21 Lawrence Tech and Lourdes this week. CU will host the top 25 Blue Devils on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. followed by the Gray Wolves coming to town on Saturday at 1 p.m. CU looks to end a six-game losing streak and get their first conference win of the season. Last Week Recap
The Golden Eagles played a pair of games over Thanksgiving week. CU started the week with a 61-57 conference loss at rival and receiving votes Aquinas College on Tuesday and then followed that with an 82-55 non-conference loss vs. Indiana-Northwest on Saturday. Cornerstone is now 1-10 on the year and 0-3 in WHAC play after losing three straight.
Third Quarter Struggles
The Golden Eagles are being outscored by their opponents in all four quarters this season, but third quarters have been the most significant through the first 11 games. Opponents have scored 212 points in third quarters while Cornerstone has scored just 144 for a 68-point difference. In the last week, the Golden Eagles won the third quarter against AQ outscoring them 17-10 and lost it vs. IU-Northwest being outscored 26-8.
Beast Mode in the Post
Sophomore
Shelby Nyboer continues to dominate in the post averaging 15.1 PPG after a 22- and 17-point outing last week. Nyboer is currently ninth in all of NAIA Division II with 166 points on the season to put her just 45 points from breaking her season total from last year. Nyboer is fifth in the WHAC in points per game through the first 11 games of the season.
Last Time vs. Lawrence Tech
The last time Cornerstone and Lawrence Tech met in a game it was one of the biggest wins in recent history for the Golden Eagles, as they defeated the Blue Devils 72-62 in the WHAC Tournament Semifinal game to clinch a berth to the NAIA Division II National Tournament for the first time since 2013-14. Cornerstone has been dominant against Lawrence Tech going 10-3 all-time.
Scouting LTU
The Blue Devils were selected to finish second in the WHAC in the NAIA DII Preseason Conference Rankings and they rank 21st in the nation with a 7-2, 2-1 WHAC record. Lawrence Tech is led by senior Nicole Buckingham who leads the conference in scoring with 17.2 PPG. Buckingham also ranks third in the WHAC with 9.8 RPG through the team's first nine games. LTU is one of the many teams in the conference who are excellent defensively ranking top five in the NAIA in scoring defense, blocks, and field goal percentage defense. The Blue Devils are led by third year head coach Kylene Biggs.
Scouting Lourdes
A veteran Lourdes roster is on pace for the team's best season in program history, starting the year 4-4, 1-1 WHAC. A team with no freshmen on it are led offensively by the senior Sydney Miller who averages a team best 11.5 PPG. The Gray Wolves are filled with depth under first year head coach John Kenger as 11 players average 4+ points per game. In conference play this season, Lourdes has defeated Madonna and lost to receiving votes Rochester College.
