Women’s Hoops falls short in 76-70 loss at Northwestern Ohio

LIMA, Ohio. –  The Golden Eagles and Racers were tied at 68 with two minutes to go in the game, but UNOH would score eight of the final 10 points to defeat CU 76-70. With the road loss, Cornerstone falls to 2-14, 1-7 WHAC on the year. Cornerstone will now head to California for a pair of games in Santa Barbara against NAIA division one schools Westmont College and The Master's College. 

What you need to know? 
  • Both teams got off to a hot start offensively combining for three three-point makes in the first five minutes of the first quarter. 
  • UNOH would go on a 9-2 run late in the first, but a three by Sterling DeGayner would cut the CU deficit to five at the end of the quarter, 21-16. 
  • A pair of buckets from Shelby Nyboer and another three from Sterling DeGayner would help the Golden Eagles tie the game at 23 early in the second quarter. 
  • Cornerstone would then go on a 7-0 run and force the Racers into a timeout after another made three from Brogham Gamble gave the Golden Eagles a 30-25 lead. 
  • Taylor Richards and Shelby Nyboer would each have 10 first half points to give Cornerstone the 41-37 lead at the break. 
  • Shelby Nyboer would score four straight points to start the third quarter, but UNOH would outscore CU 21-16 to take a 58-57 lead at the end of the period. 
  • The defenses would pick up earlier in the fourth, as neither team would make a field goal in the first three minutes with all points coming from the free throw line. 
  • The two teams would battle back and forth and be tied at 68 with two minutes to go.
  • UNOH would score two crucial jumpers in the final two minutes to take a 72-68 lead, which would help them hold on to win 76-70.

Cornerstone will head to California for a pair of games in Santa Barbara, California against NAIA DI no. 11 Westmont and NAIA DI no. 22 The Master's College. CU will take on Westmont on December 18, at 8:30 p.m. EST and The Master's on December 19 at 6 p.m. EST.
